This is a practical map reading paper for Waec GCE Geography. The WAEC Physical Geography practical exam will begin at 2:30 p.m. and last for 1 hour and 50 minutes. Along with the question paper, you will receive a map extract and other exam-related resources.

On a scale of 1:50,000, examine the map extract and respond to the following questions:

(a) To a new scale of 1:150,000, draw the shape of the map presented.

(a) Write the following on the new outline:

i. Otta settlement; ii. A 250-foot contour line in the eastern part; iii. the entire length of Iju stream, with an arrow pointing in the direction of flow.

(c) Describe the Otta settlement's three functions.

(d) Give two occupations to the people of Idiroko and explain why you chose them.

Between 2009 and 2012, the number of yams produced in kilograms by four yam-producing states in country X is shown in the table below.

– evaporation and evapotranspiration occur when the earth is heated by the sun – air rises to a high altitude – cooling of air with altitude leads to saturation – condensation occurs around hygroscopic nuclei – particles assemble to form clouds

(c) Identify any three key issues caused by water contamination.

Water pollution causes a number of issues, including: – water-borne diseases such as cholera; – a lack of clean water for domestic use; – a lack of clean water for industrial use; – ecological imbalance; – rapid growth of water weeds; – polluted water cannot be used for agricultural purposes; – human and animal migration.
